East Knox gets submerged by the Green Wave’s dominant offense
< < Back to east-knox-gets-submerged-by-the-green-waves-dominant-offenseMARENGO, Ohio (WOUB) — Last night the East Knox Bulldogs and Newark Catholic Green Wave played a riveting game in Corvette Stadium at Highland Highschool in hopes to continue on in the Division 7, Region 27 regional semifinal playoffs.
The Green Wave brought a lot of energy the second they stepped onto the field. The crowd’s spirit radiated throughout the entire stadium, and that boosted Newark Catholic’s performance on the field.
In the first quarter, Mason Hackett does not disappoint as he bounces off a tackler and takes it into the endzone 6-yards out making the first touchdown of the night. Making a quick drive for the Green Wave within the first few minutes of the game.
The Green Wave makes another touchdown with under 2 minutes left in the first quarter. On 4th and 8 Cole Canter connects with Brandon Buchman for a 22-yard touchdown making the score 15-0.
Halfway through the second quarter Bulldogs’ Peyton Lester comes in clutch for East Knox. A complete pass is made from Shane Knepp to Lester to make the Bulldogs first touchdown of the night, making the score 15-7. The Bulldogs will not go down lightly this game.
But the East Knox cannot be stopped by the Newark Catholic defense. The Green Wave gets two sacks on the Bulldogs final drive of the half. Newark Catholic Coach Ryan Aiello was not easy on his players, as he continued to influence the Green Wave to play with 110% effort the rest of the night.
Coming back after the half, the Green Wave takes over with another touchdown halfway through the 3rd quarter. Mason Hackett makes his second touchdown of the night. He finds an opening and runs 10-yards into the endzone, keeping East Knox eager to pick up their defensive performance.
After forcing a Bulldog punt with a little over a minute left in the 3rd quarter, Mason Hackett continues to be a star player of the night. Hackett makes his third touchdown of the night upping the score for Newark Catholic 29-7.
Continuing into the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs cannot keep up with the Green Wave. With 4 minutes left in the game, Newark Catholic’s Cole Canter cannot be stopped as he makes yet another touchdown for the Green Wave. East Knox goes into jeopardy and starts to slip away as Newark Catholic takes a significant lead, 35-7.
East Knox attempted to make a touchdown, but could not follow through after a few penalties set them back. Newark Catholic takes the dub for tonight’s game, ending the game 35-7. The Green Wave will advance to the regional final next week against the Shadyside Tigers as they prepare their plays to take down Shadyside in order to take home a final win this week.
