After a 40-6 blowout from Ironton early in the season, this game came with its own set of challenges. The main one being turnovers. On the Tigers second play of the game they fumbled in which the Pirates recovered and picked up the first score of the game with a field goal.
It didn’t take long for Ironton to reciprocate, Jaquez Keyes taking it 52 yards to the house. The Tigers then force a fumble and they are able to score, giving them a 14-3 lead. That would be all the offense seen out of the Tigers that night.
Wheelersburg scores after picking up the interception closing up the lead to 14-10.
This score would remain for most of the game until the final two minutes of play when Wheelersburg grabs yet another interception and marches it down the field.
Ethan Glover runs it in on the short run and Wheelersburg grabs the 17-14 lead that will remain until the final minutes.
Coming into this game Ironton was the number one seed for the third year in a row while Wheelersburg sat at fifth.
Wheelersburg will move on the fourth round of playoffs where they will take on Canal Winchester Harvest Prep.
