161 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for Jan. 29-31
< < Back to 161-new-covid-19-cases-were-reported-in-athens-county-for-jan-29-31ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 13,418 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 161 additional cases were reported for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed numbers on Jan. 31, 2022.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 43 people 20-29, 32 people 0-19, 24 people 40-49, 16 people 50-59, 16 people 60-69, 13 people 30-39, 10 people 80+ and seven people 70-79.
Two already confirmed cases required hospitalization for a person in their 70s and a person 80 or older. According to the data, 331 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
There are 2,489 known active cases in the county as of Monday and 10,818 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 52.84% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.14% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 16,384 additional doses administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
