Albany, OH (WOUB) — It was the battle for the TVC-Ohio Wednesday as Alexander (13-8, 9-2) hosted the four time defending champion Vinton County (13-4, 10-1).

Vinton County started off hot taking an early lead, and they never looked back. The Lady Viking’s were dominant on both ends of the court. Their defense held Alexander’s dynamic duo of Marlee Grinstead and Kara Meeks to just 24 points.

For Vinton County, senior Tegan Bartoe took care of business on both sides of the floor. She led her team with 19 points, shooting 55% from three. The combined offense of Bartoe and fellow senior Cameron Zinn proved to be too much for the Alexander defense to handle.

The Lady Vikings would go into the locker room at halftime with a comfortable 32-15 lead and would go on to win 55-33. After the game Bartoe spoke about the defensive effort of her team as well as what they can improve on for the tournament.

“We just need to work hard and play better defense” Bartoe said. “We played better tonight then we did Monday night. I think we really stepped up tonight and I think that will help us going into the postseason.”

The Lady Viking’s captured their fifth straight TVC-Ohio title with the win. Coach Brett Jones said he is excited to prepare for their upcoming playoff game.

“We’re just looking to come and compete. Some of my favorite parts about coaching are the scouting part of it” Jones said. “I love breaking down film, I love putting a game plan together.”

With one final regular season game remaining, the Lady Viking’s will look to focus their effort to Monday’s sectional matchup against McClain.

“I know we’re the 4 (seed) and they are the 13 (seed) but I feel they’re very good defensively” Jones said. “They have a couple really good athletes, and we need to be sharp and make sure we come and compete.”

The Lady Viking’s have one final regular season game against Trimble on Thursday before beginning their run in the OHSAA playoffs on Monday against McClain.
