The Bulldogs started off on fire quickly building a 13-point lead, but the Spartans came out of the half a different team.
Shots started to land, and the defense locked down the Bulldogs. They also shut down the Bulldog three-pointers as they only allowed one all game long.
Athens has struggled on the road all season long, meanwhile the Spartans have been on fire on their home court. This proved to be the same story.
Athens had defeated the squad earlier in the season 48-39 but couldn’t keep the momentum going when the Spartan shots started to land.
Kyler D’Augustino led the squad with over 20 points after coming alive in the second half.
For Athens, Derrick Welsh was the leader after picking up a double-double early in the game. He finished the night with 23 points paired with 12 boards and 1 assist.
This loss comes after a four-game win streak for the Bulldogs as the competition is heating up heading into the tournament.
Athens will wrap up their season the road against the Trimble Tomcats on Saturday, Feb. 12.
