209 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County for July 15-21

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 16,390 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 209 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on July 21, 2022.

According to ODH data, the cases involved 43 people 20-29, 36 people 40-49, 35 people 50-59, 33 people 0-19, 33 people 30-39, 12 people 60-69, 12 people 70-79 and five people 80+.

There are 519 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 15,726 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 53% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.46% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 17,936 first boosters and 3,864 second boosters administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 26,610 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 690 hospitalizations, 40 ICU admissions and 22 deaths reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
