Athens County Port Authority receives a large grant to build an industrial facility

The Port Authority plans to build a 60,000-square-foot facility with the goal that it will attract businesses.
The grant was from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. JobsOhio has also supported the project with a $2.9 million grant for site work and construction, according to a news release from the Port Authority.
The date to break ground was contingent on receiving the grant. According to the release, the project is slated to start by the end of the year.
“This is a historic investment in Athens County and will support the retention and attraction of high-wage jobs in growing industry sectors that help diversify our economy,” Athens County Economic Development Council Director Mollie Fitzgerald said in a prepared statement.
