The first is some brand-new renovations at Nelson Field. New home bleachers, press box, concrete work around the stadium, bathrooms for home and visiting fans, and bigger concession stand.
All these renovations are for the school and more importantly the community.
“It’s a football town, and they love this. When they see stuff that makes us better, they get real excited about it,” says head coach Mark Bonar.
Another change for the Big Reds is their head coaching position.
Mark Bonar takes over for the Big Reds. He comes back to the school after being away for 26 years and it will also be his first time being a high school head coach since 2001.
“We needed a coach and luckily, we got a man to the caliber of coach Bonar. He’s a legend, he coached me when I was younger. He’s had his hands on so many athletes and young men throughout his coaching career,” Athletic Director Josh Kernik said of the hire.
The Big Reds will debut their stadium renovations and Mark Bonar will be on the sidelines on Saturday against Garaway to start the 2022 season.
