Both teams went into the game with one win and one loss and both teams were hungry to get into the winning record column.
Both teams had several rough offensive drives until the Warriors got great field position to start their fourth offensive drive. Warriors QB Patrick Carney faked everyone on the Vikings defense out with a read option to keep getting the Warriors on the board first midway through the first quarter.
The Vikings couldn’t get anything going offensively, QB Mathew Farmer had a rough time making deep accurate passes. There were many opportunities where his receivers broke free which gave them potential to get big gains, But there were a lot of overthrown balls. With good field position to start an offensive drive for the Vikings on the first play Farmer threw an interception to Warriors WR/CB Brody Lee, giving all of the momentum to Watkins Memorial.
The Warriors offense, defense, and even special team were clicking on all cylinders. Warriors QB Patrick Carney established a run game of his own, scoring 2 rushing touchdowns in the first half for his team. Giving them a lot of momentum going into the locker room at halftime.
Not only that, But the Warriors special teams made some plays as well WR/DB Jace Henry was a monster on special teams recovering a blocked punt in the Vikings end zone giving them 6. Warriors special teams would block another punt later in the 2nd quarter.
The Vikings were able to get two touchdowns in the game but the mixture of the Warriors’ shut down defense and dominant run game was too much.
Watkins Memorial would take this one over Teays Valley 28-14.
