< < Back to trimble-tomcats-heat-up-with-big-time-win-over-south-galliaThe Trimble Tomcats trampled the South Gallia Rebels, by a score of 77-65 to improve to 10-7 on the season.
The Tomcats and Rebels were equally matched throughout a grueling 1st quarter. However, Thanks to an early 8-point surge in the beginning of the 2nd, the Tomcats were able to create some distance from the Rebels. Trimble went into the half up 42-29.
The Rebels came out scrambling in the fourth quarter. A combination of full court presses, traps, and zones kept them competitive. Despite heating up from the 3-point line in the fourth, the rebels were unable to dig themselves out of their self-induced hole in part to the Tomcats superior ball handling and ability to find the open man.
Michael Clark was crucial to the Tomcats’ success. Clark poured in 12 first half points and finished the night leading all scorers with 19 points.
The defining factor of this matchup came down to the free throw line. The tomcats found their way to the charity stripe a total of 24 times on the night. This difference single-handedly led to the tomcats walking away with a win on the night.
Sophomore Cole Wright played a big part in the tomcat’s victory, posting an impressive 17 points. Along with 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
“That’s all in my game,” Wright said. “Rebounds, picks, I’m not even worried about scoring. I’m happy If we put points on the board at the end of the day.” Reflecting on the early Tomcat’s upsurge, Wright adds, “Every possession is huge. The game can’t come down to one possession, it just depends how efficient you are with scoring. We scored 77 we are happy with that, but they also scored 65. So, the 8-0 run made a difference in the end.”
The tomcats will look to use this momentum as they head to Federal Hocking Friday night for a colossal conference matchup against the Lancers. The Rebels will look to bounce back Friday night as they head to Southern.
