38 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Athens County from March 17-23

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 20,068 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 38 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on March 23, 2023.
According to ODH data, the cases involved seven people 40-49, seven people 80+, six people 50-59, five people 20-29, five people 60-69, three people 30-39, three people 70-79 and two people 0-19.
There are 106 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 19,804 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 54.18% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.49% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 19,415 first boosters and 9,576 second boosters and 9,696 updated boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
