WOUB Senior Spotlight: Jensen Knecht
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio – Jensen Knecht, a senior at Ohio University studying journalism news and information, says she has grown as a journalist while learning on the job at WOUB. Knecht, who is from Loveland, Ohio, has always had a passion for writing, and journalism seemed like a natural fit for her. She decided to attend Ohio University because of the quality reputation of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, along with how the campus made her feel.
“I love the small town feel and how safe the campus is,” said Knecht. “Everything’s within walking distance, and you literally see everyone on the street.”
During her time at Ohio University, Knecht has been involved with WOUB. She started as a sports reporter for Gridiron Glory, Hardwood Heroes, and Bobcat Showcase. She later started reporting for NewsWatch. Knecht credits her experience at WOUB for helping her learn from her mistakes.
“It is a very supportive environment, in the sense of being able to learn and grow as a journalist and get hands-on experience,” she said.
Last summer, Knecht interned at WOUB. She worked as a reporter and anchor. Knecht says she learned things she plans to use during her entire career.
“I learned not to take criticism too hard, but to take it as a way of benefiting myself and to grow as a person and a journalist because of it,” she said.
Knecht will be taking a few classes this summer to finish her social media certificate. She is currently interviewing for reporting positions near home in Cincinnati. One day, she would like to become an investigative reporter.
“I love investigative documentary shows, and I think it’s so interesting being able to find out information for yourself. I find it to be very fascinating,” Knecht said.
Apart from journalism, Knecht has other interests outside of the field. She is an art enthusiast who enjoys painting and drawing. Knecht also has a pet bunny and loves watching movies and TV shows.
