MORGAN COUNTY, Ohio (WOUB) — A Morgan County commissioner lost his bid for a shot at another term with a solid win by his challenger, according to unofficial results from Tuesday’s primary election.

Republican incumbent Richard Welsh came up more than 300 votes shy of his opponent, Heidi Maxwell, with the final tally at 1,540 for Maxwell to 1,210 for Welsh.

Maxwell will not face a Democratic opponent in the November election, so she is almost certain to win the seat.

In the Republican race for prosecuting attorney, Richard Welch won with a vote of 1,532 over his opponent, Janna Woodburn, who received 1,170 votes. Welch also will not face a Democratic opponent in November.

Voters in York Township rejected two levies. One was an additional 0.25 mill cemetery levy, and the other was an additional 1 mill fire protection levy.

An additional 0.5 mill levy for the Morgan County Office on Aging passed by a vote of 2,004 to 1,189. And a 1.28 renewal levy for the Morgan County Board of Developmental Disabilities passed by a vote of 1,838 to 1,324.
