PIKETON, Ohio (WOUB) – The Piketon Redstreaks host the Huntington Huntsmen for their first conference game of the season. The Redstreaks would cruise past the Huntsmen with a 46-0 win, making Piketon 1-0 to start conference play.

For the start of Scioto Valley Conference play, J. Madeira Brown Memorial Stadium was ready for the 51st matchup of their own Piketon Redstreaks against the Huntington Huntsmen. It would also be Homecoming Night for Piketon High School, and students were crowned for the homecoming court.

To begin the first quarter, Piketon did not hesitate to get themselves on the board. For the first play of the game, the Redstreaks’ very own Mason Thacker would get a quick pass from Luke Gullion and would run for 57 yards, finding himself in the endzone. Although, Piketon would miss the extra point.

The Redstreaks would have several offensive plays that would throw off the Huntsmen defense, giving Piketon quick and efficient scores.

For Huntington’s first offensive drive, they would focus on quick and small yardage plays, trying to chip away at the Piketon defense. After several plays, Huntington’s quarterback, Frankie Hirsch, would get sacked and fumble the ball allowing Piketon to recover the ball.

But Huntington would not shy away so easily. A few plays later, Frankie Hirsch would get an interception for the Huntsmen and get it all the way to the Piketon 35-yard line. But even with the interception, Huntington would have another turnover on downs.

Huntington would get within scoring territory multiple times during the first half but had difficulty getting the ball into the endzone. With the several holding penalties and dropped passes by the Huntsmen, they would struggle to get points on the board.

At the end of the first quarter, Piketon would lead Huntington 13-0.

The remainder of the first half would be the same for both teams. Piketon would continue to score on the Huntington defense, including Wyatt Savage going for an 80-yard touchdown to extend the lead for the Redstreaks.

By the end of the fourth quarter, Piketon would win this game 46-0.

Looking to the future, Piketon will travel to Chillicothe to take on the Zane Trace Pioneers. For Huntington, they will travel to Chillicothe to take on Unioto Shermans.
