PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WOUB)- The Portsmouth West Senators won their first home game of the season.

The game kicked off with a few flags, but the Chillicothe Cavaliers got their feet underneath them and proceeded to press through the first quarter. They quickly found their rhythm and space leading to a quick lead in the game.

The Senators would kick off to the Cavaliers, beginning their control of the first half of the game. A few flags made the crowds feel uneasy as both teams saw that yellow fly. The Senators took down the Cavaliers, but they quickly bounced back and continued to dominate the quarter. The Cavaliers would continue to make some ground as they eventually made their way toward the endzone where Andrew Hamman would get the ball to Cartae Ligon for the first points of the game followed by a successful PAT.

The Cavaliers fell to an unsuccessful pass where it found the hands a Senator lineman, but they came back to win possession after holding the Senators back.

The quarter came to an end with a sack leaving the Senators in possession and the score 0-7 Cavaliers.

After an incomplete pass, possession would be turned over to Cartae Ligon through a punt and play starting at the forty-three-yard line.

The Cavaliers found their momentum and a few tosses and trick plays later, the endzone was in sight with Andrew Hamman passing the ball to Jordan Suwannasing. The attempt for the PAT was blocked with one flag after another and was eventually found at the four-yard line.

The Senators were not about to give up and Anthony Bishop lifted spirits of fans and players alike with a twenty-two-yard catch. Senator players continued to run plays until Mason Parker was able to power through for the first touchdown for them.

With the clock running down quickly until half, the Cavaliers bounced back with a field goal leaving the score 7-17 Cavaliers.

The Senators were not about to give up and started the second half with a burst of energy. Drew Dettwiller put double digits on the board with a field goal. First down after first down was reached and eventually at the end of the third quarter, Mason Parker yet again found space to reach the endzone securing more points for the Senators.

But the action does not stop here. An offside call against the Cavaliers set the Senators up for a two-point conversion and they were successful officially putting them in the lead 18-17. Tensions were high into the fourth quarter as Senator spirits were up and they continued to hold onto their lead while the Cavaliers continued to fight.

After a few back-and-forth plays, the Senators were able to secure their first home win of the season beating the Cavaliers 18-17.
