Democrat Taylor Sappington says he hopes to repay voters’ support as Athens County’s next treasurer
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Taylor Sappington has been elected Athens County treasurer, defeating opponent Dawn Deputy.
Sappington, a Democrat, won 93 percent of the vote. Deputy ran as an independent. Her name was not on the ballot and anyone wanting to vote for her had to write in her name.
He said wanted to thank voters for their support.
“I’m ready and willing to get to work and hit the ground running, and I hope to return their trust back to them seven-fold by pushing for good, effective, efficient governance in the county treasurer’s office,” he said.
In a news release, Deputy said she will continue to advocate for people in Athens County and work to improve her community. Deputy also congratulated her opponent on his victory and said it was important to support elected officials as they try to make change.
Sappington will take office September 2025.
