MARIETTA, Ohio (WOUB) – Long before she became a cultural icon known for her pioneering work advancing gender equality, Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a teenager mourning the loss of her mother, a young parent working her way through law school, and a lawyer navigating a profession—and a culture—that often refused to make space for women.

All Things Equal: The Life and Trials of Ruth Bader Ginsburg is a 90-minute, one-woman production written by award-winning playwright Rupert Holmes, directed by Laley Lippard, and starring Michelle Azar. Azar originated the role and has performed the show in more than 30 cities nationwide.

The play traces defining moments from Ginsburg’s life—from her childhood in Brooklyn to her work as a pioneering legal scholar and Supreme Court justice—highlighting the long arc of her fight for gender equality under the law.

The touring production arrives at the Peoples Bank Theatre (222 Putnam Street) on Friday, April 3.

In this episode of Conversations from Studio B, Emily Votaw speaks with Azar about the production, her approach to portraying Ginsburg, and what she hopes audiences take away from the experience.
