The Mid-American Conference Tournament came closer to a close Saturday. The tournament has gone longer than expected as teams have battled rain and a cold spat during morning contests. All semifinal games were completed yesterday with Ball State and Bowling Green playing their ways into the championship game.

Game No. 11: No. 4 Ball State 4 – No. 1 Kent State 1

The top-seeded Kent State Golden Flashes, one year removed from a storied run to the College World Series, bowed out of the MAC Tournament Saturday with the loss to Ball State. A poor performance by the bottom of Kent State’s lineup plagued the Golden Flashes. The first four hitters in Kent State’s lineup tallied six hits while the last five only had two. Catcher Sam Tidaback led the Cardinals with three hits and an RBI. Ball State had a strong performance from starter Chris Marangon. He went eight innings and only allowed one run.

Game No. 12: No. 7 Toledo 5 – No. 6 Bowling Green 2

Toledo forced a third game with the Falcons by winning Game No. 12. The Rockets provided a steady offensive onslaught, scoring in four separate innings. Pitcher Ryan Wilkinson threw a complete game. He walked one and struck out four. The 5-2 loss was Bowling Green’s first of the tournament, which gave the Falcons another chance later in the day.

Game No. 13: Ball State’s win rendered Game No. 13 unnecessary.

Game No. 14: No. 6 Bowling Green 1 – No. 7 Toledo 0

Third baseman Nick Glanzman secured the only run of the game for Bowling Green, but it was enough to propel the Falcons to the MAC Championship Game. Center fielder Patrick Lancaster brought in Glanzman on a sacrifice fly. Bowling Green’s three pitchers surrendered just seven hits and one walk while preventing a Toledo score.
