Athens Area Receives $5K Grant For Tree Planting
< < Back to ?p=12634An Ohio organization is among recipients of grants helping plant more than 1 million trees around the world by the end of the year.
Keep Southeast Ohio Beautiful and the UPS Foundation recently announced the $5,000 grant, among 30 totaling $150,000 nationally. UPS will also provide volunteers as part of the program.
The money will go to two projects.
The city of Athens will use its share to plant 25 to 30 trees in support of their upcoming Columbus Road improvement project.
In Wayne National Forest, the money will go to plant several large native trees, to produce shade, wildlife food and habitat. The trees will also beautify a 3-acre lake at the Upstream Rock Run reclamation site between the villages of New Straitsville and Shawnee in Perry County.
