Gilleland Named MAC East Player Of The Week
< < Back to gilleland-named-mac-east-player-weekIn addition to Ohio Women’s Volleyball’s jaw-dropping performance in the Oregon Classic this weekend, sophomore setter Abby Gilleland was named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of The Week.
Gilleland played her best yet in the tournament championship against No. 8 Oregon. Gilleland finished the championship game with 36 assists, five kills, eight digs, two service aces and a block assist. It was no surprise with such a performance that Gilleland was named The Oregon Classic Most Valuable Player.
Gilleland averaged 10.33 assists while leading Ohio to a 3-0 record and the tournament title. The team left the state of Oregon untouched with a 9-0 set record. Ohio is now ranked No. 27 in the nation according to Monday's American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches’ Poll.
Ohio career highlights for Gilleland include being named to the 2012 All-MAC Freshman Team, playing all 31 regular season matches last season, and leading the Bobcats with 970 assists. As a freshman Gilleland ranked ninth in the MAC in the category. Next up Gilleland and the ‘Cats host the Bobcat Invitational, which includes a matchup against the No. 24 North Carolina Tarheels.
