Karlis Commits To Ohio Women’s Basketball
< < Back to ?p=12842Ohio Women’s Basketball head coach Bob Boldon brought in his first recruit of the 2014 class on Tuesday night. Kelly Karlis announced her verbal commitment to Ohio via her personal Twitter account.
Karlis is a wing out of Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, Ill. The senior forward is listed at 6-foot-0 by ESPN.com, which also rates her as a three-star recruit with a scout’s grade of 89 or a “high-major prospect,” which would mark her as a potential three- to four-year starter for a high-major program.
Midwestrecruitingreport.com describes Karlis as an all-around solid player. She is a very long and athletic scorer who can handle the ball well. She is a versatile defender in that she can guard the wing or the post, and she uses her length to her advantage to deflect balls and hit the offensive boards.
Last year as a junior, Karlis averaged 7.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game for the Montini Lady Broncos.
Her efforts helped lead her team to a 35-2 record and a trip to the Illinois 3A State Championship semifinals. In two games at the tournament Karlis scored 29 points, brought in 14 boards and compiled seven steals.
When Karlis joins the Bobcats for the 2014-15 season she will likely find herself on a roster with plenty of young forwards. Sophomore forwards Lexie Baldwin and Jenna Curry are the most experienced forwards on Ohio’s 2013-14 roster, which also includes four true freshmen at forward.
Per NCAA rules, Karlis is not yet bound to her commitment to Ohio. A student-athlete’s commitment does not become binding until they sign a National Letter of Intent. Karlis can sign her NLI as early Nov. 13.
