Glitch Means Ohio Employers Missed Alerts on Worker Arrests

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A state official says Ohio’s system for notifying certain public and private employers about workers’ arrests missed at least 100 notifications because of a problem that was undetected for two years.
The Columbus Dispatch reports people enrolled in the program include teachers, foster parents and home health care workers. About 80,000 names weren’t added to that list as intended.
Attorney General Mike DeWine says his office has found at least 106 cases of employers not being informed about a worker’s arrest or conviction during that time. He says that number is expected to grow as the Bureau of Criminal Investigation reviews whether employers were alerted about the arrests of more than 1,600 enrolled workers during the past two years.
The problem was fixed last month.
