Parkersburg South Travels To Warren
< < Back to parkersburg-south-travels-warrenThe Warren Warriors (1-2) will take on a foe from across the river Friday night, as the play host to the Parkersburg South Patriots (1-2, 0-1 TVL) in non-conference play.
Warren is looking to bounce back in week four after a hard 42-6 loss to Athens.
The Warriors are also looking for their first victory against a West Virginia opponent after being falling to Parkersburg 51-40 in week one.
Warren will continue to rely on a balanced offensive attack, as it has through three games this season.
Behind the arm of senior quarterback Austin Klintworth, the Warriors have totaled 467 yards passing, averaging 155.6 yards per game. Klintworth has managed to maintain a 57.4 pass completion percentage on the season.
Defensively, senior defensive back Caleb Mayle and junior lineman Brandon Pahl both lead the Warriors. Each player is averaging close to five tackles per contest.
The Warren defensive will need to focus on covering the Patriot backfield and running game. The spotlight of the Parkersburg South offense is the trio of quarterback Garrett Gilkenson, and running backs Brendan Schwendeman and Cody Smith.
Schwendeman rushed for more than 400 yards in the Patriots’ season opening win over Ripley, but the tailback has struggled the past two weeks against stiffer competition.
Parkersburg South failed to score a week ago against No. 2 Morgantown, and the Patriots’ defense has allowed at least 33 points in each of its first three games. Look for coach Mike Eddy’s team to try and get off to a quick start and lean on the run game Friday.
Both teams come into Friday’s matchup looking to get back to .500 and gain momentum before the think of conference play. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Warren High School.
