Quarterback Isaac Huffman threw managed only 10 yards through the air, and senior running back Austin Lang ran for 64 yards. Huffman felt the pressure all night from the Eagles defense, throwing two intersections and getting sacked multiple times.

Eastern (2-2) will take on the South Gallia Rebels (2-2) next week, and Waterford (1-3) will try to redeem itself at Wahama (3-1).

Southern 48, Federal Hocking 12

In a game that evoked a second half which played polar opposite to the first half, the Southern Tornadoes put a thumping on the Federal Hocking Lancers, 48-12, to retain their undefeated record.

After a sluggish start, the Tornadoes twisted their way into the end-zone six times in the second half to outscore the Lancers, 41-6, in the last 24 minutes of regulation.

Southern initiated the scoring early in the second quarter, when junior quarterback Tristen Wolfe connected on a fourth-and-14 with senior wide receiver Hunter Johnson for a 16-yard touchdown pass. Wolfe finished the night 7-of-12 with 147 yards and two scores, both of which were completed to Johnson who tallied four receptions for 111 yards.

On the ensuing drive, Federal Hocking rebounded with a 62-yard, four-and-a-half minute drive, completed by a Delbert Crum two-yard touchdown run. The Lancers’ senior fullback rushed for 92 yards on 21 carries. A failed two-point conversion attempt kept the Tornadoes in front, 7-6.

Southern responded with a 62-yard drive of its own, but it was cut short at Federal Hocking’s 13-yard-line when Wolfe’s fourth-and-eight pass bounced off of tight-end Dennis Teaford’s fingertips. With 1:50 remaining in the half, the Lancers’ failed to piece together a scoring drive, translating to a 7-6 halftime score in favor of Southern.

Following second-half-opening touchdown drives for both teams, Southern led Federal Hocking 14-12 with 5:59 remaining in the third quarter. In the next twelve-and-a-half minutes of gameplay, the Tornadoes ripped the Lancers’ defense for five consecutive scoring drives, amounting to 34 unanswered points and putting Southern on top, 48-12.

Senior running back Tyler Barton led the Tornado scoring run with 280 yards and 2 touchdowns on 22 rushes. Senior defensive back Zac Beagle extinguished the Lancers’ passing game with three interceptions.

Southern outgained Federal Hocking in total yards, 501-238.

Federal Hocking drops to 2-2 and will host Belpre (1-3) in week five. Southern’s season remains unmarked at 4-0, as they travel back home to play Symmes Valley next week.
