West Virginia’s Class A has a juicy matchup in store Friday night, as state-No. 1 Williamstown travels to take on No. 2 St. Marys.

St. Marys is coming off a bye in week 5. In their last game, the Blue Devils beat Tyler, 35-6. Through the first five weeks of the season, they have outscored their opponents, 123-42.

Williamstown is coming off a 21-14 victory over Ravenswood. The Yellow Jackets are looking to avenge their 22-17 loss to the Blue Devils last season.

The No. 1 ranking in West Virginia’s Class A figures to be on the line as well Friday.

For the Bule Devils, a big key will be stopping Williamstown quarterback Jake Tracewell, who accounts for 80 percent of the Yellow Jackets’ offense. Tracewell has passed for over 400 yards and run for 230 yards this season.

Another key for the Blue Devils will be to get the running game going against a tough Williamstown defense. The Blue Devils are averaging 265.3 rushing yards per game. Junior Jeremy Pratt and senior Noah Spitzer lead the charge on the ground for St. Marys. Combined, the two have a total of 595 yards this year.

For the Yellow Jackets, Friday’s game comes down to starting early and controlling the pace of the game. Williamstown will need to score early to quiet the ruckus from the St. Marys crowd. The battle between the Blue Devils’ offense and the Yellow Jackets’ defense will also be a key factor in the game. St. Marys is averaging 30 points per game, while Williamstown is only giving up 10.5 points per contest.

One of the two sides has to give Friday night. The battle for the top spot in West Virginia’s Class A starts at 7:30 p.m.
