Meigs Edges Out River Valley 26-21

With a few minutes left in the first half, the ball changed position three times between Meigs and River Valley. The Marauders recovered a fumble, setting them up on their own 25-yard line. The next play, quarterback Cody Bartrum threw an interception leaving the Raiders on Meigs’ 12-yard line. The following snap, River Valley fumbled yet again. However this time Meigs’ running back Trae Hood scooped up the ball and ran it in for a touchdown.
That touchdown gave the Marauders the momentum they needed to edge out the Raiders 26-21.
Miscues did not just happen within the final few minutes of the half though, they played a common theme throughout the game for the Marauders. The errors set up most of the scoring plays for River Valley.
Bartrum threw his first interception of the season on the first play of the game. The former player of the week finished the night completing just eight of his 22 pass attempts for 121 yards.
Taking advantage of this, River Valley set up a quick, 45-second scoring drive. Wide receiver Kirk Morrow caught a 34- yard pass from quarterback Dayton Hardway. The duo would go on again, scoring on another pass, giving the Marauders at 14-0 lead halfway through the second.
Morrow ended the night with six catches for 103 yards. Hardway closed with eight completions for 163 yards.
After trucking through a few sacks and bad snaps, Bartrum and the Meigs’ offense shaped up allowing the team to handle the miscues in the final few minutes of the half.
It allowed the Marauders to head confidently into the third quarter. Running back Kalieb Sheets finally broke through with a 17- yard run that set the Marauders in good position. Five plays later, Sheets ran into the end zone.
Next week, Meigs (4-1) hosts Nelsonville-York while River Valley (4-1) travels to Wellston.
