This past July, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) celebrated the 25th anniversary of the landmark civil rights law, addressing discrimination against people with mental and physical disabilities. Starting October 6, the Presidential Advisory Council on Disability and Accessibility Planning (PACDAP) and the City Commission on Disabilities will sponsor a four week long event series in honor of the ADA’s anniversary.

A kick-off will be held on October 6 from 12 to 1 p.m. at Howard Park, across from the Schoonover Center for Communication at the corner of Union and College Streets. In the event of rain, the celebration will be relocated to the Schoonover Center. Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl and Ohio University President Roderick McDavis will be in attendance. An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter will be provided.

The following week includes the ADA 25th Celebration Panel Discussion on October 13 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Scripps Hall room 111, and a concert performance by the Dancing Wheels Company, on October 13 at 7 p.m. in Baker University Center Theatre.
