Ohio-based Nonprofit Prints Last Library Catalog Cards

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) – A central Ohio company that produced nearly 2 billion library catalog cards over decades has printed its final round.
The Columbus Dispatch reports the Dublin-based Online Computer Library Center on Thursday printed its last sheets of cards as part of a push to keep up with the times.
The nonprofit, known as OCLC, long ago shifted its emphases to online records and services. It even changed its name from the Ohio College Library Center.
Cards were once a key part of the company that printed more than 130 million in 1985. But orders had fallen to less than 1 million as of last year.
The final shipment is bound for Concordia College in New York. Librarians there will use the cards as a backup to an online catalog.
