Vinton County Eyes TVC-Ohio Title

Matt Combs has his Vikings’ minds set on one thing this season: a TVC-Ohio title. The longtime Vinton County head coach is blessed with an experienced, talented roster and knows that this experience can go a long way.
“It’s nice to have experience,” Combs said. “We’ve been able to move a little faster because of that experience.”
Vinton County finished second in the TVC-Ohio in the 2014-15 season, and will rely on its two returning playmakers to remain at the top of the conference.
Vikings forward Chase Wood is a force to be reckoned with in the paint. Wood has been a consistent double-double threat over the past two seasons and should be one of the best paint presences in the Ohio.
Wood will shoulder the load with sharpshooting guard and fellow three-year starter Jordan Albright. Albright has shown in years past that he has the ability to get hot at any time and as long as he’s shooting well, the Vikings will never be out of a game.
Wood and Albright are two of six seniors on the Vinton County roster.
Vinton County will open the season on Nov. 27 at Zane Trace, but one of the Vikings’ biggest tests will come in their TVC-Ohio debut. On Dec. 8, Vinton County will travel to The Plains to take on reigning-conference-champion Athens.
Another game to key into on the Vikings schedule comes just three days later, when Vinton County hosts the Alexander Spartans in McArthur. The Spartans and Vikings finished tied for second in the conference last season.
