House Damaged In Sunday Night Fire

A man’s home sustained major damage on Sunday in a house fire in Nelsonville.
Firefighters from the York Twp. Volunteer Fire Department were toned out at about 6 p.m. to respond to a fire at a mobile home.
“We responded within a few minutes,” York Twp. Fire Chief Scott McManus said. “When we got there it was…fully-involved and we couldn’t make entry.”
Responders focused on protecting the four to five outbuildings, including one filled with firewood, surrounding the mobile home and saved about 1/3 of the home, according to McManus.
“The fire was so big that it would have taken at least two of the buildings (along with the house),” McManus said.
The owner of the property, Shane Mitchell, was not home at the time of the fire, and two dogs inside the home were able to escape. Mitchell was able to get some personal belongings from a part of the home that was salvaged, the fire chief told WOUB.
The cause and origin of the fire is still unknown, but investigators do not suspect arson as a potential cause.
Only one injury was reported from the fire. A firefighter was transported from the scene with an ankle injury, McManus said.
