The Marauders got an early christmas gift this year in the form of an undefeated start to the season— they are not taking their gifts for granted, either.

The Meigs Boys’ Basketball’s success is in full swing, becoming the first TVC-Ohio team this season to reach 8-0 and solidifying its place at the top of the table, only behind a consistent Vinton County.

Despite their recent surge, what really stood out about this week’s performance was their level of play without one of their key players. Kaileb Sheets, who left for Texas to participate in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Texas, missed two out of the three games this week.

Head Coach Ed Fry mentioned how the Marauders narrow win at Jackson on Tuesday 47-44, in addition to Sheets’s subsequent departure for Texas, played a deep role in regrouping the team and instilling confidence.

One result of the mid-week adjustments was the debut of JV player Christian Mattox to Varsity, who helped support the Marauders as they regained their confidence. With the additions on the court and a re-kindled style of play, Meigs outscored its following two opponents, River Valley and Point Pleasant, 149-106.

With such a high level of success thus far—even without one of their key players—the Marauders have a lot to look forward to as the season rolls on. They are two wins away from their first double digit win season since 2010-11.

Furthermore, the Marauders are undefeated in conference play, hinting to a pivotal matchup between Meigs and the other undefeated team in TVC-Hocking, Vinton County, come January.

With the Marauders only having one game left in 2015, Fry wants to make sure his team knows it only marks a halfway point to the season. He also wants to place an emphasis on rebounding during practice.

“We do have a little height, [but] we’re not wide,” Fry admits. ” In order to compete with Alexander or Vinton Country we have got to compete with them on the board “

The Marauders will have a one-week break before traveling to Federal Hocking on Dec. 29.
