Foul Trouble Hurts the Lady Lancers’ Comeback
< < Back to foul-trouble-hurts-the-lady-lancers-comebackFollowing a 45-42 win over River Valley on Monday, the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers (3-14, 2-10) fell to the Belpre Lady Golden Eagles (9-7,7-4) 60-48 Thursday night.
Cheyeane Barker finished the game with 17 points and five separate trips to the foul line as she led the Golden Eagles to their 9th win of the season.
“When we played River Valley we played four quarters of tough defense,” Federal Hocking coach Jeremy Tolson said, “tonight was building to be the same game but the fourth quarter didn’t come out how we wanted.”
Although the Golden Eagles led the Lady Lancers throughout the entire game, the game was much closer than the score implies. Even with 12 points from Destiny Tabler, Federal Hocking spent a large portion of the game working to keep the score close. But after reaching ten fouls mid way through the fourth quarter the Lady Lancers gave up on the comeback.
“We came out of the gate their in the third quarter and got it to within two, but then they made six or eight free throws all in a row.” Tolson said. “It’s hard to keep clawing back like that.”
The Lady Golden Eagles were able to reach the paint with ease throughout the night and get plenty of shots off as they constantly grabbed offensive rebounds. With the constant fouls from the Lady Lancers, a majority of Belpre’s trips to the paint ended at the foul line where they made 11 out of their 18 free throw opportunities.
“They were able to get in to the paint, they out rebounded us clearly on the offensive glass.” Tolson said.
The Lady Lancers will have one day off before returning back to the hardwood when they host South Gallia on Jan. 23. The Lady Golden Eagles will also play on Saturday when they travel to Reedsville to take on Eastern.
