The Covered Bridge Music Series, a joint venture between Ohio University Lancaster and The Lancaster Festival, will present roots-rock stalwart Alejandro Escovedo on Saturday, April 30.

Escovedo will be joined by violinist Susan Voelz (Poi Dog Pondering) for an evening of music in the newly-renovated Wagner Theatre at Ohio University-Lancaster.

“Alejandro Escovedo has been making great music for decades and crosses many musical genres,” said Covered Bridge Music Series Committee Chair Steve Wells. “We are thrilled to be able to attract such a talented performer and artist to OUL and to Lancaster.”

Alejandro Escovedo comes from a large family that includes several professional musicians, including percussionist brothers Coke and Pete Escovedo, both of the group Santana. Alejandro has performed and collaborated with Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams, John Dee Graham and Chuck Prophet. In 1998, No Depression magazine named him Artist of the Decade.

After experiencing serious health issues, Escovedo recorded his album Real Animal in 2008, Street Songs of Love in 2010 and Big Station in 2012.  All three albums were produced by Tony Visconti, a long-time collaborator of David Bowie’s.  Escovedo has recently been performing tribute shows for musical greats Leonard Cohen, Lou Reed, David Bowie and John Prine.

Tickets are available with prices from $10-$20 at coveredbridge.tix.com. Hospitality begins outdoors at 7 p.m. featuring music by local duo Hey Neighbor. Beer, non-alcoholic beverages and Bob’s Backyard BBQ will be available. Theatre doors open at 7:30 p.m. with Alejandro Escovedo beginning at 8:30 p.m.

The purpose of the Covered Bridge Music Series partnership is to showcase fresh and relevant musical talent, providing discovery and enjoyment for the campus and Fairfield County communities and the region. The concerts generally take place twice a year (spring and fall) on the Lancaster Campus of Ohio University.
