Man Dives Into Lake Logan While Trying To Elude Deputies

A 26-year-old Logan man was pulled from Lake Logan with symptoms of hypothermia last week after jumping into the freezing cold water in an alleged attempt to elude deputies.
Three deputies were dispatched to a report of domestic violence at Justin D. Sudlow’s home on Blosser Road Thursday afternoon. When they arrived, Sudlow allegedly fled the residence and left tracks in the snow.
Deputies followed his tracks through a wooded area, to a barn, over a fence and ran to Lake Logan. Hocking County Sheriff Deputy Daniel Checovich caught up with Sudlow and ordered him to surrender or a Taser would be used.
Sudlow then jumped into Lake Logan, wearing jeans, boots, thermal overalls and several sweatshirts.
Checovich said Sudlow attempted to swim, but his heavy clothing and the frigid water pulled him underneath. Checovich and Sudlow’s father — who went to the lake when he learned his son had fled — both managed to pull him from the water.
Sudlow sat in Checovich’s cruiser to keep warm until medics from Hocking County EMS arrived.
After being examined, Sudlow allegedly told deputies he and his girlfriend, Kea McCall, 23, got into a physical argument after he neglected to help her get up the driveway with children and groceries because of snow and ice.
Deputies who interviewed McCall said her version of events coincided with Sudlow’s version. McCall was allegedly the primary aggressor, so she was charged with domestic violence and assault, both misdemeanors. Sudlow was charged with domestic violence, assault, resisting arrest and obstructing official business, also all misdemeanors.
Sudlow was taken to Hocking Valley Community Hospital for treatment and then placed in Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail to await his arraignment in Hocking County Municipal Court. McCall was summoned to appear in Hocking County Municipal Court so she can continue to care for the children.
