Field Hockey: Ohio sweeps MAC weekly awards
< < Back to field-hockey-ohio-sweeps-mac-weekly-awardsOhio Field Hockey captured both MAC Weekly Awards for a third time this season as Louzeth Schutte was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Jessica Jue was named the Defensive Player of the Week.
Schutte won offensive honors this week after earning defensive honors on three occasions already this season. Jue wins a weekly award for the first time and becomes the fifth different Bobcat this season to bring honors back to Athens.
Schutte returned from injury and scored both goals for the Bobcats in their win over Kent State and then added a tally in the win over Missouri State. She is fifth in the MAC in assists, ninth in points, and after this weekend, moved up among the top 10 goal scorers in the league.
"Lo has been a mainstay of the defense all season, but this weekend she will be remembered for her contribution at the other end of the field," Head Coach Neil Macmillan said. "Lo's execution on her few shots was pin-point and she proved extremely important for us against second-place Kent. She is an extremely versatile hockey player who contributes to our team in so many ways."
Jue assisted on all five goals this weekend for the Bobcats and set Ohio’s single-season record for helpers. The sophomore now has 17 for the season, most in the league, and is up to fourth nationally. Jue, who has moved to a defensive midfield position in conference play, helped keep the Golden Flashes off the scoreboard for the first time in MAC play and then helped blank the Bears. Saturday’s result was the eighth shutout of the season for the Bobcats and fourth-straight in MAC play.
"Jess has been a mainstay in our midfield all season and has embraced this role having moved back from forward," Macmillan added. "She is a determined defender who was a key reason neither of our opponents managed a single goal this weekend. Her ability to shut down one side of the defense has been key to our success this year".
Ohio is on the road this weekend with two pivotal MAC matches. The Bobcats play at Miami on Saturday at 1 p.m. and then follow that with a contest at Ball State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
