OU Closing Until Wednesday Morning Due To Extreme Cold
< < Back to ?p=15707UPDATE 12:47 p.m. Ohio University will be closed from 5 p.m. Monday until 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to posts to the university’s emergency notification page.
Officials said residence halls, dining halls and courts will remain open during normal business hours.
Three Athens Campus buildings will remain open with altered hours during the closure.
– Ping Recreation Center – open Monday until 10 p.m.; Tuesday open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Wednesday open regular time
– Baker University Center – open Monday until 10 p.m.; Tuesday open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Wednesday open regular time
– Alden Library – open Monday until 10 p.m.; Tuesday open from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Wednesday open regular time
The university says it will provide additional updates by Tuesday afternoon.
Ohio University will be closing at 5 p.m. Monday as a result of sub-zero temperatures forecast for the region through Tuesday.
The closure affects all of the university’s campuses. The university made the announcement via text messages and a post to the emergency alert section of the university website. Sunday evening officials were monitoring the situation but planned on keeping the university open Monday.
The National Weather Service issued a wind chill warning for much of the region starting at 5 p.m. until Tuesday afternoon. Wind chills could be as low as minus-30 degrees below zero. The strongest wind gusts of up to 50 miles per hour are expected in the morning.
The university says all classes and activities after 5 p.m. are canceled. Officials are advising people to stay indoors and avoid outdoor exposure. The university is also making additional CATS buses available to limit wait times at stops along the campus bus system and providing vans and shuttles at additional locations. Services are also being extended through 10 p.m.
The university also said it will post additional updates early Monday afternoon.
