Savannah Jo Dorsey is used to being in control, but a wild pitch on Friday gave Akron the additional run Ohio could not match.

The Zips led 4-0 at the top of the sixth after a home run from Savannah Fruin in the third, and multiple errors by the Bobcat defense in the sixth. However, the sour and slow game for Ohio ended on an upbeat note after freshman Deanna Cole singled into center in the bottom of the seventh to start an offensive rally.

“It just takes one pitch,” Coach Jodi Hermanek said. “Don’t get off the field until the last pitch is done.”

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, their late spark would not be enough and Ohio went down 4-3. Even though they were never able to recover, Taylor Saxton said her team has a lot of fight and passion.

“You don’t want to play us in the seventh inning when we are down,” she said.

Ohio took that mind set and momentum into game two on Saturday. The Bobcats were once again down after an Akron home run in the top of the sixth. But this time, the seventh-inning fight would be enough to bring home a win. Jamie Wren and MacKenzie Brunswick got on base, just in time for Cole to be the clutch hitter she has Casie Hutchinson, Deanna Cole (Sarah Stier | Ohio Athletics)been all season.

With two outs, Cole hit a hard one to the shortstop that she was unable to cover. Wren and Brunswick scored to get the ‘Cats an instant 2-1 win.

Ohio continued their strong at-bat presence in the third and final game. However, they were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities and fell to the Zips again, 1-0.

Overall, Dorsey was able to settle into the series and get her 18th win of the season in game two and pitched a total 11.2 innings. Her strong on-mound presence has been keeping the Bobcats in the game all season and she’ll look to do the same on Tuesday. Ohio will have two chances to redeem themselves against the Zips in their last two games of the series; first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
