Lady Eagles Shine On Senior Night
< < Back to lady-eagles-shine-senior-nightThe Eastern Lady Eagles celebrated an 85-38 win on their senior night over their rivals, the Southern Lady Tornadoes on Wednesday night.
The seniors of Eastern enjoyed their final win on their home court, receiving a standing ovation from fans as they left the court late in the fourth quarter.
“Everybody here appreciates the girls,” head coach John Burdette said of the fans. “Eastern has had a long tradition of basketball and they understand how the girls play. They play good ball and they appreciate it. They’re good in the community; they get out and talk to people and meet everybody.”
Southern’s 38 points is the most any TVC-Hocking team has scored against Eastern this season. The Tornadoes took a while to get going, not scoring their first points until six minutes into the game, but had a run in the second and third quarter scoring nine points in a matter of two minutes in the second period and 18 in the third.
Southern could not come back from the lead Eastern created though. The Eagles led 19-3 after the first quarter and continued to dominate going into halftime at 42-14. Freshman Laura Pullins and senior Jordan Parker had back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter and came into the second half outscoring Southern 16-3.
Seniors Jenna Burdette and Parker scored 19 and 17 points respectively for the Eagles. Pullins added 12 points, scoring 7 of those in the third quarter.
The game finished with the fan celebrating the seniors as they came off the court, as it was the last time the five seniors would play in “The Nest”.
“I talked to the girls earlier and told them [tonight] was more of a celebration,” Burdette said. “It’s been great coaching them. They’re a great group of kids who love to play ball.”
The girls will finish out their regular season on the road playing Waterford on Feb. 6, and Belpre on Feb. 8.
