Antioch College Earns Higher Learning Commission Accreditation
< < Back to 162881YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (AP) – A southwestern Ohio college says it has been granted accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission, a status that enables opportunities such as access to more financial aid for students.
Antioch College in Yellow Springs announced Wednesday that it had earned the accreditation it has been working to achieve since closing amid financial problems in 2008 and reopening in 2011. The accreditation is retroactive to last month’s graduation date for members of the Class of 2016, meaning their diplomas will be from an accredited institution.
The Higher Learning Commission has said that it evaluates academic offerings, mission, finance and resources in determining accreditation. Antioch says accreditation provides wider opportunities for graduates and more access to support from philanthropic foundations.
The private school, about 20 miles east of Dayton, has 266 students.
