Ohio Wins Big But Bobcats Aren’t Happy with Performance

Offensive struggles continue to haunt the Bobcats, giving the team a losing feeling despite a 58-41 win over Northern Kentucky on Monday night. The team struggled with half court play and putting the ball in the basket and only shot 24-65 from the floor. The Bobcats were 4-20 from 3-point range, shooting 20 percent compared to Northern Kentucky, who shot 45 percent from downtown.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well against Martin but we did such a nice job of moving the ball, the shots we took tonight were so bad,” Ohio head coach Bob Bolden said of the team’s struggles. “It’s the worst collection of shots we’ve taken in a long time. Obviously Northern Kentucky did something very well, and were able to take us out of just about everything that we tried to do.”
Bolden tipped his hat to Northern Kentucky, crediting them on giving Ohio a run for their money. The Bobcats struggled jumping to the ball, only grabbing 34 total rebounds compared to Northern Kentucky’s 43, 15 of which were off the offensive glass. Ohio forced 28 NKU turnovers and only had 15 itself.
But don’t let this team’s demeanor fool you; the Bobcats walked away with a 17-point win over the Norse. The mantra of the night was “drive, basket, Lampkins” as it has been in previous games.
Senior guard Quiera Lampkins continues to be the leader in points for this dynamic team. Lampkins put a total 20 points on the board for the Bobcats. Lampkins also led the team in rebounds with eight for the night. Junior guard Taylor Agler was right there behind her, totaling 10 points for the Bobcats. The Norse’s Kelley Wiegman led her team with 13 points.
The reason why this team takes this type of win to heart is because this program prides themselves on meeting and maintaining certain standard.
“We’re trying to be great,” Agler said. We’re trying to win championships. Trying to make a run in the NCAA tournament, so we can’t settle for average. It’s not about the score; it’s about our standard and how we play. To our standard we played really bad tonight.”
Bolden is giving the ‘Cats a day to the rest, but after Wednesday it’s full throttle with practice. According to coach, since Thanksgiving break starts tomorrow, he will utilize this time to practice, practice, and practice some more until they figure out how to fix the problems that appeared on Monday. These offensive mishaps could turn into major problems when it comes to the grueling schedule the team will face as the season progresses into Mid-American Conference play.
The 3-0 Bobcats will take the court next on Nov. 26 when they host Murray State. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in the Convo.
