Ohio University is trying to prepare its employees for some budget-tightening realities.
In an email, sent Tuesday, OU’s Budget Planning Council advised faculty and staff, “we are not in a position to award salary increases this year.”
There will also be healthcare plan changes. Citing a projected 11.5% annual increase of prescription drug costs for the next three years there will be new programs introduced that will require, “additional action by doctors and patients for the approval of specific, high cost drugs.”
These measures are being attributed to Governor John Kasich’s proposed state FY18-19 budget.
In January, the Board of Trustees approved a tuition and fees hike for Athens undergraduate students, but Kasich’s proposal includes a tuition freeze for the next two years.
