PREVIEW: Nelsonville-York Looking For Leaders in 2014
< < Back to preview-nelsonville-york-looking-leaders-2014Editor's Note: Over the next two weeks our reporters will be bringing you team previews for each team in the SEOAL, TVC-Ohio, TVC-Hocking, and our West Virginia teams. We continue in the TVC-Ohio, where everyone is chasing the Athens Bulldogs.
Coach David Boston’s strategy for engaging these young players extends all the way to the community. The team participated in the fifth annual Midnight Madness scrimmage on Aug. 9, which is an opportunity for athletes to showcase their improvements, while allowing the fans to evaluate the team for themselves before the season officially begins.
“You can tell the importance of this program to the community,” Boston said. “It’s exciting for a young person to be in front of the crowd. It’s fun!”
The real key to success this year could lie in their performance away from home. The Buckeyes posted a 1-4 record on the road the season prior, and were on the receiving end of three blowout losses at Trimble (40-0), Meigs (47-6), and Athens (56-20).
Nelsonville-York’s schedule does not get any easier this season, however, as the Buckeyes will play four different conference champions in Athens (TVC-Ohio), Trimble (TVC-Hocking), Logan (SEOAL), and Newark Catholic (Licking County-Small).
The Buckeyes will begin the season on Aug. 29, when they take on Trimble for their home-opener.
