On Sunday, September 17, the Kilvert Community Center hosted the Kilvert Community Day. Attendees were treated to lunch courtesy of Community Center volunteers, and raffled off several prizes. Kilvert was originally founded as Tablertown by Michael Tabler around 1830. Tabler moved from his father’s plantation in Virginia to Ohio after falling in love with one of his father’s slaves Hannah. The two moved North with their six children so that they could live freely. Many of Kilvert’s residents can still trace their heritage back to Michael and Hannah.

Kilvert Community Center Board Member David Butcher took a survey of the more than 50 guests at Kilvert Community Day to see if they were in favor of changing Kilvert back to Tablertown.

“It doesn’t sound like much, but they can just absolutely wipe out your history,” Butcher said.
