COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio’s elections chief says requests for absentee ballots are higher this year than during an equivalent election cycle two years ago.

Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted says an estimated 257,728 absentee ballots have been requested statewide, including about 1,000 requests from military and overseas voters.

Husted said Tuesday that 69,223 ballots have been cast by mail and in-person.

Husted says 223,000 absentee ballots had been requested by this time in 2015, with more than 61,200 ballots already cast.

In that election voters decided three statewide issues and numerous local issues and races, compared to two statewide issues and local races this year.
