Softball: Ohio signs three
< < Back to softball-ohio-signs-threeThe 2011 MAC East champion Ohio softball team announced the signing of three players to their roster. They are infielder Amanda Dalton, pitcher Savannah Jo Dorsey and outfielder Sloan Walker.
Dalton hails from Salem, Virginia where she led her team in batting average all three years she played in high school, .467 in 2009, .453 in 2010 and .437 in 2011. With her talents, she earned First Team All-District Honoree three times as well as First Team All-Region IV Honoree three times. Adding to her accolades, she was an Honorable Mention on the All-State Team in 2009 and The Roanoke Times All-Timesland honoree in 2010.
Head coach Jodi Hermanek expects to see Dalton flourish in the middle infield for the Bobcats.
Dorsey is an in-state recruit from Grove City, Ohio with almost 500 innings pitched in her high school career. She excelled early throwing 231 strikeouts in 160 innings (1.4 per inning) for a 1.00 ERA as a freshman and gaining Second Team All-District and All-Conference recognition. She can also field, getting all 40 outs in 40 opportunities.
Sophomore year, she hurled 249 strikeouts in 161 innings (1.5 per inning) for an ERA of 0.78 and throwing out 53 runners in 54 chances. She rose up the ranks in offense her second year, hitting .342 with four home runs, 22 RBI and a .579 slugging percentage. For her sophomore year efforts, she brought home All-State Honorable Mention, First-Team All-District, First Team All-Conference, Third Team All-Metro Area and an OHSAA Honor for Leadership.
Another year of experience meant another year of awards for Dorsey. She was named First Team All-State, First Team All-District Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, OCC Conference Player of the Year and was Columbus Dispatch’s First-Team All-Metro Area. She led her team to their best record in school history (25-3), an OCC title and a regional title. Those awards were because of her 289 strikeouts in 168 innings and an ERA of 0.91. During all of those innings, Dorsey threw nine shutouts, two no-hitters and one game with 18 strikeouts. She was a dual threat her junior year hitting .386 with three home runs.
Winning surrounded Walker during her time at Tomball High School in Texas. Junior year her team went 34-6 and 14-0 in conference play on the way to being named the fourth-best team in the state of Texas and the 24th best team in the country.
Teams that she played on qualified for ASA Nationals during six of the last seven seasons. In 2010, she was in the top ten for on-base percentage of Premier Gold National players and was an All-District outfielder. At the dish that season, she hit .571 and had an on-base percentage of .625. She earned a spot on the All-State Tournament Team at the 2010 High School 5A State Tournament.
Hermanek plans on using Walker as a left-handed hitter who can transition between hitting for average and hitting for power.
