Lady Marauders Use Strong 3rd Quarter to Defeat Athens
< < Back to lady-marauders-use-strong-3rd-quarter-defeat-athensThe Meigs Lady Marauders traveled to Athens to battle the Lady Bulldogs and came out with a gritty 55-26 win.
A slow start from both teams offensively caused this game to come down to the second half where one would need to pull away, and fortunately for the Lady Marauders (2-2, 1-0 TVC-Ohio), Kassidy Betzing, Devin Humphreys, and Marissa Noble all stepped up to help Meigs run away with this game.
With an 18-11 lead at halftime, Meigs was playing sluggish and the Lady Bulldogs were aggressive all over the court, especially on the boards. Athens (1-3, 0-1 TVC-Ohio) was outrebounding Meigs 16-9 at the half behind Lily Mills and on the offensive side of the ball, Laura Manderick was controlling the ball and forcing Meigs to play tough defense all half, but the Lady Marauders were still able to hold the lead.
For Meigs, they came out hungry on both sides of the court, going on an 18-0 run to end the third quarter. The third quarter was Noble’s as she would score three straight three’s to help increase the lead and wear out the Athens defense.
Meigs led after the third, 39-16, and the Lady Bulldogs were out of the game from there on. Meigs outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-5 in the third quarter.
Consistent play from Humphreys, who had 10 points and 3 rebounds, helped the Lady Marauders win this game with ease.
Another quiet impact player was Taylor Swartz. Swartz’s stats may not show her impact, 4 points and 5 rebounds, but her swarming defense affected the Lady Bulldogs’ offense often.
The Lady Marauders would end the game 45% from behind the three-point arc and 16 steals. Betzing had 9 steals herself and helped push the ball up the court to get the offense started and initiate the offensive play that would boost the Lady Marauders to a win.
Meigs will have a home contest against Wellston on Monday, December 11 where they will try to get their second win of the season.
