< < Back to ohio-coasts-win-over-appalachian-stateBack on the road after Thanksgiving, the Bobcat wrestling squad didn’t miss a beat in its dual meet against Appalachian State team in Boone, N.C., winning the meet 26-15.
Cody Walters (174 pounds), Andrew Romanchik (184) and Phil Wellington (197) won the first three matches of the meet consecutively to secure an early 11-0 lead. Walters defeated the first Appalachian State opponent, Forrest Przybysz, 14-0.
However, in just two short matches that did not go past the first period, Appalachian State’s Denzel Dejournette pinned Zackery Parker in the heavyweight matchup, and Dominic Parisi pinned KeVon Powell in the 125-pound contest to take-over the lead 12-11.
From there, the Bobcats took control of the match as 133-pounder Kegan Squire and 141-pounder Noah Forrder finished the next two matches with decision wins over Vito Pasone and Mike Longo, respectively.
Then Tywan Claxton pinned Appalachian State’s Javon Johnson in the 149-pound bout in the second period to remain undefeated in the 2014-15 season.
Things got a little dicey for the Bobcats in the 157-pound match between Sparty Chino and Zachary Strickland. However, with a takedown in overtime, Chino emerged as the winner with a 3-1 decision.
Appalachian State’s Nick Kee topped Harrison Hightower in the 165-pound match to end the night.
