West Virginia Lawmakers Hear Audit Reports During Interims

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia lawmakers learned about audit reports on state purchasing cards and about missing Homeland Security assets during interim meetings in Charleston.
Lawmakers concluded their interim meetings Tuesday after finishing a two-day special session on Monday at the state Capitol.
One audit included an analysis of state purchasing cards from the first quarter of fiscal 2017. It found 17 percent of reviewed transactions did not have sufficient supporting documentation.
The audit found about 2 percent of transactions were determined to be unallowable, including 21 made with third-party payment processors such as PayPal or Amazon Marketplace.
A separate audit found the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management failed to maintain an accurate inventory of fixed assets since 2012. The division says nine trailers on a current list haven’t been located.
