Annual Interactive Collection of the Year’s Best Reads Available Now
NPR’s Book Concierge is back for the 6th year with a new batch of more than 300 books, recommended by NPR hosts, critics, reporters, and producers. Find favorite books selected by staffers including Ari Shapiro, Lulu Garcia-Navarro, Michel Martin, as well as our trusted critics and our go-to librarian Nancy Pearl.
You can find your own new favorite by exploring the guide’s more than 25 search filters — “Ladies First,” “Book Club Ideas,” and “Sci Fi, Fantasy & Speculative Fiction,” to name a few. The 2018 Concierge also includes two new categories — “The States We’re In,” for books about the American experience, and “No Biz Like Show Biz,” for tales of performers, stages and screens.

“We are so thrilled to bring back the Concierge for the sixth year,” says Ellen Silva, senior supervising editor of NPR’s arts desk. “The addition of two new search filters means that users will get even more thematic variety in their quest for a new favorite read.”
The Concierge’s most popular tag — staff picks — features more than 150 recommendations from nearly 70 NPR reporters, producers, and critics, including All Things Considered hosts Mary Louise Kelly, Michel Martin, and Ari Shapiro; Weekend Edition host Lulu Garcia-Navarro; special correspondents Melissa Block and Susan Stamberg; Code Switch correspondent Karen Grigsby Bates; Washington editor Ron Elving; TV critic Eric Deggans; Fresh Air critic Maureen Corrigan, and many more.
Users can also find links to NPR book reviews and interviews as well as coverage from our Member Stations.
First introduced in 2013, the Book Concierge was developed by NPR Books and NPR Visuals to revamp the traditional year-end “best of” list in a dynamic format for every screen. Visit NPR.org/BestBooks to see the 2018 Concierge and NPR Books’ previous year-end lists dating back to 2008.
NPR Books continues to help a busy audience find great reads. The site combines the best of NPR’s on-air interviews and news with original reviews and recommendations.
