Lady Vikings Defend TVC-Ohio Crown
< < Back to lady-vikings-defend-tvc-ohio-crownThe Lady Vikings celebrated two big moments tonight: senior night and another TVC-Ohio crown, led by sophomore star Morgan Bentley.
But this monumental night did not start the way it finished. At the end of the first quarter, River Valley was ahead by four points. The Lady Vikes came out flat, and the Lady Raiders took advantage of the miscommunication on the court.
After the buzzer rang throughout the gym, sounding the start of the second quarter, the Lady Vikings came out with one goal in mind: to take back the momentum of the game.
At the end of the first half, the team did exactly that. Vinton County put together a 33-point quarter to put the Lady Raiders to a halt. After the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Vikes doubled up the Lady Raiders with a final score of 82-41, clinching the TVC-Ohio conference title.
Morgan Bentley helped the team back on their feet by dropping 32 points total and was just shy of a double-double, with eight rebounds. Following behind her was Cameron Zinn, who had 13 points and three boards.
In addition to the exciting night for Vinton County, the seniors had a special night as well. Jazmynn Sharp, Belle Lambert, and Kendall Fee won three conference titles out of their four years as members of the program.
“I don’t think many kids can say that they had three titles in four years and I’m proud of that,” coach Rod Bentley said after the game.
Unfortunately, Fee had a late season ankle injury. But that did not prevent her from having a few minutes on the court during her last home game. She even scored a basket, ending her season on a high note.
Rod also mentioned he was proud of his seniors. “Kendall fractured her ankle in practice, and her and Belle are 4.0 [GPA] students . . . they are great kids” Rod said. “It was awesome to get Kendall that shot.”
At the end of the night, the team cut themselves a piece of the net from the hoop and the festivities began. But the team still has games ahead of them, being the first seed in the sectional tournament.
On Thursday, Feb. 7, the Lady Vikings face the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets away for one of their final regular season games, makeup games not included.
